Growing Up So FAST!

Louie is now 4 months old! It is so hard to believe it. I'd like to say that time has flown by, but it really hasn't. We have moved into our new house and are still in the unpacking phase. Well, we are really still in the stacking boxes stage. We still have boxes stacked in the dining room, front bedroom, and back bedroom. More than anything we just open up a box to figure out which room to stack it in and then close the door. There has been some adjustment to living in the suburbs. Charlie and Izzy are still city dogs at heart and have no idea what the backyard is for. We still have to walk them in the front yard on the concrete to get them to go potty. Silly dogs! We're become friendly with our neighbors too. Last Saturday night, 4 households sat in our driveway and got to know each other over tasty spirits until wee hours in the morning. We have a good group of people around us, and funny enough two of our neighbors also have Pomeranians! I think we will like it here!

Louie is getting so big and active! He is 15.6 pounds and 24 inches tall. He loves to talk and laugh at his Daddy and Granddad! His favorite thing to do is JUMP! The jumperoo has become our best friend because he is getting too heavy to hold for the length of time he wants to jump. He has found his feet! I don't think he's going to be sucking on his toes anytime soon because his belly is far too big to work around! He's still a pretty serious baby, but does have his moments of pure sweetness! Anyone who knows Lou and I can tell that Louie is our son for sure! He likes things his way!! He has also discovered Izzy! Anytime she walks by, which is getting fewer now, Louie reaches for her and sometimes comes back with a fist full of fuzzy tail hair. He's not really certain about Charlie yet. I suppose it is because Charlie likes to french kiss him and Louie isn't about kisses yet.

Well, I thought this was going to be a longer post, but Louie is calling for his Momma! I'll try to update soon with pictures.

#5's Alive

As most of you know, we welcomed Louis James Lawrence V into this world on January 23rd! Adjusting to having a baby in the house has been more of a challenge than we expected, so I'm a little late in updating the ole' blog. I had an elective induction because I was just so huge and uncomfortable and it was becoming obvious that he wasn't going to come on his own anytime soon. Since I was 40 weeks on the 22nd, my doctor saw no reason why we couldn't induce on the 23rd. My labor was exceptionally easy and I slept through most of it due to the magical work of one Dr. Prus and his magical epidural. Eight hours of shut eye later when it was time to push we had to wait because I didn't have control of my bottom half enough to push. They had to decrease my epidural by half! We had a small snafu when L5's shoulder became stuck in the birth canal and the doctor and nurses had to push on me to get him out. He was an uber healthy 9.24lb, 20.5 in baby. Yep! Little ole me had a giant, go figure. Since delivery he has lost some weight and looks "normal" now. We're still wondering whose features he has, which changes on a daily basis. Although, I think he looks like me when he's being an angel and Lou when he's acting like a little terror:)
The puppies love him and have taken over the position of nurse/protector. Anytime L5 cries they are johnny-on-the-spot to make sure he's alright. They have been a bit neglected and I feel really bad about that. I accidentally kicked Izzy off our bed last night, which could have seriously hurt her because she's so tiny and our bed is a good 4.5 feet off the ground. This of course happened after Charlie was attacked, again by a Lab, this week and Izzy scared out of her mind ran away from Lou. She was smart enough to run back home and sit at our gate, but Lou didn't realize it and thought we'd lost her for good. Both he and I we're hysterical. Both kids are fine, but the whole episode just makes us want a home with a yard even more so we can avoid problems like that. Which brings me to that status of the house...we've had a few showings but still no contract.
Lou and I need to take some pictures of the little monster and get them up here. He is so difficult to photograph because the second you pick up a camera he either puts a hand in his face or scrunches up his face, so most pictures don't really come out so well. But, I have to go...he decided to take a nap so that's my que to do the same.

So close

We went to see Dr. Moore this week for our 39th week visit and the first thing he asked was "So, you're still pregnant?!". Ha! I never would have thought that I'd make it full term, but here we are... I've been feeling ALOT!!!! of pressure and some pretty nasty Braxton-Hicks, so Dr. Moore examined me to check my progress. I've been dilated 2cm for several weeks, but this week we learned that I'm still only 2 cm, but I'm 100% effaced and the baby is at zero station. Zero station means that the baby's head is at the cervix and ready to come out. Dr. Moore offered to do something to the membrane to get me started in natural labor, but when I turned to Lou for his opinion his face was white as a ghost. It was by far the funniest thing I'd ever seen. He's been waiting and wanting to meet his first born for months, but facing the automatic thought of meeting him within a few hours threw him for a little loop. We decided to give it another week and if he hasn't come by the next appointment then we'll do the membrane thing. Dr. Moore said that since I'm at the stage that I'm at that I shouldn't have a long labor, which sounds good to me. Of course, we'll see if the baby has other plans for Mommy.

The baby's room has been relocated to the 3rd floor to be by us and it is turning out to be the cutest room ever! We went to Ikea and bought a few stand up closets since there isn't any closet space in that open room. We also got a huge palm leaf canopy to put over the baby's bed to help cast off some of the bright morning sunshine that comes through his windows. We still have some things to do, but all in all his room is ready for his arrival.

Waiting

No baby yet. We've had a few false starts over the last few days, but we're still short of the real deal. Of course, Lou goes back to work this week, so it should be this week since it is the most inconvenient. Being pregnant for 9 months really isn't as bad as the last few weeks of anticipation. Plus, this baby is getting huge and has run out of room. At any given moment I have a chubby little leg poking out of my side or a little foot shoved on top of my rib cage. Ouch! If Lou or I try to reposition him he just gets mad and kicks. We can tell already that breeding a Lawrence to a Carlson has resulted in one hard headed kid with a heck of a kick.
My Dad is still in the hospital, but seems to be doing much better. The problem appears to be with his Coumadin. He was taking too much which resulted in causing his kidney tumor to bleed into his bladder. The docs plan to go in and cut off the blood supply to his tumor, which worked before (I use the word worked very loosely since obviously it didn't really work). I know it's my Dad's right and decision to continue his care in Pasadena, but wish he would move to the medical center. He's been in the hospital all week because the docs can't get their act together and get him in surgery to do the basic procedures that could have been done in a day or two down here in the med center. Lou and I were joking because one of his nurses was talking to us and she couldn't pronounce basic medical terms correctly, which just proves my sad little point that the brightest bulbs don't work at Bayshore. I do have to give my Dad's doc a little credit though because when he was diagnosed he was only given 6 months to live, which was 3 1/2 years ago. So, we're hoping that he'll be out of the hospital when his 9th grandson is born!
Our little dog Izzy Belle is doing MUCH better as well. She's almost 100%. She growls and barks and is generally a little brat, which means she's almost totally back to herself!
2009 is here and we are so happy. The only good thing about 2008 was getting pregnant. We're very hopeful about 2009. My Dad is doing better and the docs are trying to put together a new plan to combat his advancing cancer, our doggie is better, we're getting showings on our house, and we'll have a beautiful little boy in a few days. I'm hopeful that at some point I'll get a job too! I'm off to go do some more sitting on the big butt.
